Creative Writer's Workshop - Elementary

Who: 4th-5th grades Dates: Mondays, beginning September 18, 2023 Where: TBA Time: 4:00-5:30 pm Fee: $195 per month |
Does your child love to write? Are they currently working on a piece or have an idea for something new? This creative writer's workshop allows students to work at whatever stage of the creative process they are in, providing both independence and comradery as they write and craft. This class is a good fit for the student who loves to write and would like time to write and share with others. Sharing is always optional.
Essay Writing for High School Students

Who: 9th-12th grades Dates: Tuesdays, beginning September 19, 2023 Where: TBA Time: 4-5:30 pm Fee: $195 per month |
What if your child was able to write a well-organized, well-developed essay with confidence in any situation? This class is an opportunity to develop skills in a relaxed, come-as-you-are environment. We will have fun discussing issues, writing about them, sharing, and improving organization and ease along the way.
In this class, your child will:

In this class, your child will:
- Master the organization of the 5-paragraph essay
- Learn several rhetorical styles (ie: cause/effect, problem/solution, comparison, argument, response, etc.)
- Analyze a variety of essays and learn from good examples
- Write and use outlines
- Develop clear hooks, thesis statements, and topic sentences
- Write several essays of their own in a supportive writer's workshop environment
- Learn to cite sources
- Practice summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting
- Receive individual feedback about what they are doing well and what can be improved
- Develop confidence, knowing that they can write a well-organized essay anytime/anywhere

This creative writer's workshop allows students to work at whatever stage of the creative process they are in, providing both independence and comradery as they write and craft.
Students will learn how to use Scrivener, a digital software, to tame unwieldy stories into purring, organized manuscripts, gaining clarity in the process about where to revise, edit, and add, as well as the inspiration to keep going to completion.
This class is a good fit for the student who loves to write and would like time to write and share with others. It is okay to work on school writing assignments as well, and sharing is always optional.
